Malton Ladies B team has achieved a fantastic win today, against Ganton at Ganton, in the first round of the Annodata Matchplay tournament.

Winning 3 and 2 Malton pulled out all the stops to win a tightly fought contest.

Thank you to the Ganton Ladies for their hospitality and to the Malton caddies and spectators.  It was great to have you there.  Thank you also to Joel Preston, Professional, for his bunker coaching - useful to some more than others!

We should find out who we play in the next round w/c 8th April so watch this space.

Thank you again to everyone involved.

Malton & Norton Golf Club Lady Captain Claire drives off the new season

Heavy rain didn’t deter over 50 members when the new Ladies Captain at Malton and Norton Golf Club drove off the first tee to launch her year as Lady Captain.

Claire Nutt was cheered as she set off with a lovely drive up the first tee.  The competition was supposed to be played over 18 holes but the sensible decision was taken to only play 9 holes and then retire for tea and homemade cake provided by the clubhouse restaurant.

“I was delighted that so many members turned out in such terrible weather for my drive in.  It is very nerve-wracking driving off in front of everyone but I know they are all very supportive.  The day takes a lot of planning but unfortunately there is nothing anyone can do about the weather!”

Following the competition prizes were awarded to the top three teams.  British amateur golfer Emma Brown’s team including Jane Dwyer, Ann Mansfield and Irene Sellars took first place.

“I am also very grateful to everyone who supported my raffle in aid of Macmillan Cancer Care.  We raised £336 in total.  So far this year we have raised £748 for my charity, which is fantastic.”

Malton and Norton Golf Club swings into action for Macmillan Cancer Care

MALTON & Norton Golf Club has raised £200 for Macmillan Cancer Care at its first event of the 2019 season.

Malton and Norton Golf Club’s 2019 Ladies’ Captain, Claire Nutt, confirmed the cancer support charity as her charity of the year at a lunch attended by more than 40 guests last week.

“I chose Macmillan because of a dear friend, Lucy,” she said. “Lucy was a nurse herself but sadly died of a brain tumour in 2018. The Macmillan nurses were on 24-hour call out and were marvellous.”

The day also featured a nine hole golf competition, which was won by the team of Irene Sellar, Wendy Allan, Brenda Nobbs and Wendy Chapman.

Following the competition, a fundraising manager from Macmillan Cancer Care, Sarah Childs, gave a presentation on the role of Macmillan in the community and how volunteers could get involved.

Ms Nutt said: “I will be organising lots of events this year to help raise money for Macmillan Cancer Care, and some of them will be open to non-members. Our next event is a social afternoon on Wednesday, March 27, from 2.30pm. We will be serving tea and coffee with cream scones for just £4 per ticket.

“Darcy and Wolf Jewellery and Bags of Desire will be selling their products.
